Teaching Technologies

Selecting Technology in Classroom

Teaching, learning, and technology are all integral to the learning process. Learning technologies connect faculties to computer software and web tools to encourage collaboration, share multimedia, improve communication, teach online and more.

Selecting Technology in Classroom

Learning technologies can deepen learning by supporting learning objectives and outcomes. In the classroom technology can include a wide range of tools from pen and paper to interactive whiteboards and digital software and associated tools. The Audio visual team in KAUST support the following classroom technologies such as Whiteboard , Google docs, Samsung Flips and Sonic foundry Mediasite (in-class video recording). The support provides instructors with different ways to build dynamic interaction and share information with learners.

Choosing appropriate technology can be challenging given the diverse products in the market. The following three questions may support and guide in selecting the most appropriate integrating learning technologies into teaching practice:

  • Course learning outcomes The use of learning technologies should be driven by the learning outcomes.  Instructors should consider if using a particular learning technology will help the learners achieve the learning outcomes.
  • The value of learning technologies Using new learning technologies may have significant benefits but it is important to consider the  time to adopt and implement the new technologies into the teaching and learning process.  Reflect and adopt new learning technologies that you know will benefit the learners and overall course learning outcomes.
  • Technology supported by KAUST KAUST supports various technologies but sometimes instructors may not prefer to use them, or they can not find a technology that meets their teaching needs; hence they turn to other software and online tools. Be mindful that learning technologies supported by KAUST are supported and are also aligned to KAUST data protection guidelines.
